EMPOWERING TOMORROW'S STARS: FUB DRILLS UNDER-17 TEAM ABOUT FAKE AGENTS IN FOOTBALL
Fake agents, individuals masquerading as legitimate representatives, often prey on aspiring footballers, enticing them with promises of lucrative contracts, international exposure, and professional success. Recognizing the need to shield the promising talents of the Women's National Under-17 Team, FUB has taken on the responsibility of enlightening these players about the potential pitfalls they may encounter.
FUB has meticulously organised a series of interactive workshops and informational sessions, equipping players with essential knowledge to identify and avoid falling victim to fake agents. These sessions comprehensively cover agent verification, recognising warning signs, identifying red flags such as exorbitant upfront fees, unrealistic promises, and a lack of transparency in contractual dealings, legal awareness, as well as FUB's unwavering support. The union serves as a vital support system, offering guidance and acting as a bridge to legitimate agents and football organisations.
In an enlightening interview, Lebogang Dilelo, an under-17 player, expressed sincere gratitude for the timely educational session provided to her and her teammates. She underscored the importance of this knowledge, especially at the onset of their careers, particularly on the international stage. Dilelo revealed her astonishment upon discovering the existence of fake agents and the potential risks associated with dealing with unverified representatives.
One of her teammates, Olesego Mbulawa, echoed her sentiments, describing the educational session as an eye-opening experience. Mbulawa pledged to share this invaluable information with fellow young athletes in the game, emphasis
ing the need for vigilance. She advised her peers to remain alert to potential exploitation by individuals attempting to secure contracts without proper representation or parental involvement. Mbulawa stressed the responsibility young footballers bear in such situations, encouraging them to promptly notify the relevant authorities or their guardians if they find themselves in dealings with questionable agents. She emphasised the need for transparency and cautioned against making any contractual commitments in the absence of proper representation.
These testimonials from Dilelo and Mbulawa underscore the critical role of education in empowering young footballers to navigate the complexities of their burgeoning careers. FUB's initiative not only imparts knowledge about the risks associated with fake agents but also instills a sense of responsibility among emerging talents to safeguard their interests and promote transparency in the world of sports. The union's efforts represent a commendable stride towards ensuring the integrity and longevity of women's football in Botswana.
