CBA IMPROVES RELATIONS

Footballers Union of Botswana (FUB) and the Botswana Football Association (BFA) recently signed a landmark Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) that will see the two organisations working towards the creation of a healthy landscape for professional football by providing a package of measures to grow the professional football sector.

Asked about the CBA, FUB president Onalethata Tshekiso said “we hope to develop professional football by reviewing and, where necessary and appropriate, reforming regulatory mechanisms to safeguard the integrity of the sport and its core participants”.

For his part, BFA president Maclean Letshwiti said his association commits to engage with FUB prior to implementing any changes that may affect professional players’ employment conditions.

“We will work with FUB with the objective of further enhancing the union’s capacity to effectively service and represent professional footballers in accordance with this agreement and ensure that the views of professional players are represented in the decision-making process of football,” he said.
